The history of
the Enting name
and water treatment span a period of 54 years. Mel Entingh, founder
and president of Enting
Water Conditioning, Inc., started his water treatment career in
1953, when he decided to sell water softeners, to nearby residents,
in order to fund the completion of his degree at Cedarville College
in Ohio.
The company he
established was called the Perma-Soft Company. Three years later,
his father joined in the venture as a partner. In 1957 the Entingh's
were offered a franchise by Culligan, Inc. They continued to service
the Miami Valley area as a Culligan dealer until 1965. They sold
their Franchise in order to form Enting
Water Conditioning, Inc.. The objective of this
new company was to assemble water treatment equipment and sell
retail as well as wholesale to independent dealers nationwide.
Since then, at
about five-year intervals the company has been moved to larger
facilities which were usually double in size. Employees were added
as required to handle assembly of units, installation, as well
as service.
In 1975 Enting
automated its operations, including customer service tracking
and history, using an IBM mini-computer and software developed
by the Zycor Corporation. This made the Enting
one of the very first manufacturer/distributors in the industry
to be totally computerized. Zycor and Mr. Entingh formed a partnership
providing software packages for automating water conditioning
and treatment companies.
Enting
Water Conditioning moved into a new company-owned
43,440 sq. ft. facility in August of 1987 in order to meet the
growing demands of its dealers and distributors. November of 1993
Enting acquired of Superior Water Conditioning of Greenville,
Ohio, and in the spring of 1996 National Water Conditioning of
Springfield, Ohio. Mel's never ceasing desire to see the corporation
grow, in September of 1997 brought the addition of AB Water Conditioning
Company of Cincinnati, Ohio; on the first of January 1998, Champaign
Water Conditioning of Urbana, Ohio and Superior Water Conditioning
of Troy, Ohio in the Fall of '98. Lindsey Water of Arcanum, Ohio
became part of Enting, on January 1st 1999, as did Dollar Water
Systems of Dayton the following July. In mid-November of 2002
Mel acquired Related Products of Centerville, Ohio.
Enting
has always supported local trade and community organizations.
Membership is held in both the National
and Ohio Water Quality Associations. Mel has served
on the Board of Directors as well as on various committees of
the national association.
