Filtration

Filters are among the oldest methods used by man to purify water. They are most effective at removing particles and bacteria. They work by passing water through a porous filter material that traps solid materials in or on the filter material. If your water is heavily laddened with rust and other types of sediment, filtration can help to remedy the problem.

If your water is cloudy, you are suffering from a condition commonly referred to as turbidity, in the water industry. Turbidity is the term given to anything that is suspended in water. It is found in most surface waters, but it usually doesn't exist in ground waters except in shallow wells and springs after heavy rains. Undissolved materials such as sand, clay, silt or suspended iron contribute to turbidity. Turbidity can cause the staining of sinks and fixtures as well as the discoloring of fabrics.

Filtration and separation are the treatments for turbidity of water.

Screen Filter Trapping

Depth Filter Trapping

There are 3 types of filters screen filters, depth filters and membrane filters. Screen filters trap materials on the upstream side of the filter, while depth filters trap materials throughout the body of the filter. The two types of filters can be used separately for different applications, or together for specific applications.

Screen filters are largely used to reduce the amount of particulate matter flowing through them. There are many different types of depth filters, designed to remove different types of contaminants.  Filters can be used by themselves or combined into systems.  Filters can be combined with other conditioning components to produce higher quality water.
